  • Roland Emmerich’s new film Anonymous isn’t even on general release yet but it has already caused quite a stir, (especially in Stratford-Upon-Avon). The film presents the theory that the plays and sonnets of William Shakespeare were actually written by the 17th Earl of Oxford, Edward De Vere. Anonymous is also a political thriller full of power struggles, attempted murder, jealousy and hatred, whilst demonstrating the influential nature of theatre and its ability to produce powerful reactions from an audience. The film is a venerable ‘Who’s Who’ of British film and boasts beautiful costumes along with some superb individual performances most notably from Vanessa Redgrave and Rhys Ifans. Philippa, our Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator, was lucky enough to attend the film’s premiere as part of the British Film Industry’s annual London Film Festival ahead of the crowds and definitely recommends making time to see Anonymous when the film hits cinema screens on Friday.

  • Michel Roux's Service on BBC2 has got the team talking after following eight trainees trying to convince Michel Roux they can handle the pressure in some of Europe's best restaurants and hotels. Nathan's mantra has always been, 'the key to great service is anticipating clients' needs' and Michel Roux himself says, 'You have to know what the customer wants before he even realises it himself'. Great minds think alike.

  • Black Swan. Interesting that the team are raving about Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’. Themes explored include destructive narcissism, drug taking, murder, ruthless ambition, fragile mental states and erotica. And I thought classical ballet was all about strict discipline and pink tutus. Worth a watch.

  • Inflatables – they are ubiquitous at big summer and sporting events but design has barely moved on in 30 years. Surely someone can come up with a cool take on the inflatable? Harder and harder to justify the gas-guzzling generator if they don’t even look good. Has the bubble burst?
